Is it Time to Ditch Training—and Replace It with Something Better?
How do we differentiate between “training” and “learning”? Some may think of them as synonymous terms, but many of us would interpret them differently, including researchers. For instance, training is transactional, and learning is progressive. The moments when we say, “Let me look it up.”, “I’m just thinking about it.”, or “Can we talk about it soon?”, driven by the learner’s availability and motives, are most effective. In real life, we also gain knowledge and insights outside of a dedicated training environment. As humans, we also do not necessarily learn from a structured, linear order of topics. Even with advanced technology, we cannot underestimate the importance of the human element. Today’s organizations face challenges of emerging social movements and rapid change resulting from automation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. Most organizational changes require behavior change for success. In this interactive webinar, we will discuss the differences between training and learning. We will explore the design considerations for learning strategies that are not one-and-done but sustainably drive behavior change within organizations. Learning Objectives Identify the differences between training and learning Define an outcome-driven learning strategy Describe the design considerations of a learning strategy that sustainably drives behavior change
